Town of Wilton, NY
Wilton, New York is a town in northeast section of Saratoga County population 16,178 (2010 census) with a total area of 36 sq. mi.
History: First settled made their homes in the area circa 1764. The community was originally called Palmertown for the Palmer mountain range of which Mount McGregor is the tallest. In 1818 the Town of Wilton was subtracted from the Town of Northumberland.
A narrow gauge railroad once linked downtown Saratoga Springs with The Balmoral Hotel on Mount McGregor near the present Grant Cottage State Historic Site 1897
Notable residents: Ulysses S. Grant wrote his memoirs in the last days of his life on McGregor Mountain
