Town of Schoharie NY
Schoharie County New York was created in 1795 by joining portions of Otsego County and Albany County. The county covers an areas of 626 square miles with a population of 32,750 as of the 2010 census. As of 2000 the county contained 11,995 homes at a population density of 51 persons per square mile. The ethnic diversity origins are: 95% European, 2% African, <1% American, <1 Asian, <2% Hispanic. The median Income was $36,600 mainly from agricultural enterprise.
History: Known as the Bread Basket of the Revolution Schoharie farms provided much of the food for Revolution armies although the area also had a strong Tory population. The Old Fort as pictured above still stands from its earliest days as a stronghold against Indian attacks.
